I've heard some people say that [[The Valeyard|the Valeyard]] idea is being dropped in what they call 'NuWho'.  The proof against this though, is that [[Sixth Doctor|the Doctor]] attended [[The Trial of the Valeyard (audio story)|the trial of the Valeyard]] and that Yog-Sothoth mentioned him.  I mean, I know this is Big Finish and all, but come on!  They did it with the knowledge of what is currently happening in the Whoniverse.

My theory is that in his [[The Emperor|next to penultimate incarnation]] [[Dream Lord|the Dream Lord]] approached him as he was dying.  He then said that he could save the lives of everyone in the universe, if he swore his life to him.  He refused, but after he regenerated he agreed.  So he swore ''[[The Valeyard|his]]'' life to him.  When at long last he killed [[The Curator (The Day of the Doctor)|the Last Doctor]] on Trenzalore he realised that he had no purpose without trying to kill the Doctor and died.  The Dream Lord released [[The Curator (The Day of the Doctor)|him]] as he had spent [[The Valeyard|his entire life]] being his body.
