What were Torchwood doing during the third Doctor's exile on Earth? The Doctor's existance wasn't exactly kept top secret, and with some of the major catastrophes the Doctor helped avert, surely Torchwood would have been able to notice?--[[User:TemporalSpleen|TemporalSpleen]] 10:43, January 9, 2010 (UTC)

At that time, Torchwood didn't exist in the Doctor's timeline, since he accidentally inspired it as the Tenth Doctor. [[User:Jim393|Jim393]] 11:45, January 9, 2010 (UTC)

But even if Torchwood never existed until it was inspired by the Tenth Doctor, the Third Doctor would still have been exiled to Earth in that new timeline in which Torchwood existed. Also, the fires of Pompeii shows that the Doctor was responsible for the eruption, yet that still happened in his timeline before he interfered. :Torchwood as an idea hadn't existed during the classic series, but it had always existed in the timeline. Before the the Tenth Doctor even existed, there were references to Torchwood. Back in early series 1, we know from Toshiko Sato (the alien pig incident) that Torchwood existed the entire time. As I said, Torchwood's existence was noted long before the Tenth Doctor came around. UNIT wouldn't have let Torchwood get their hands near the Doctor, either. Jack would have also been stopping them the entire time from interacting with the Doctor's past (from his prespective) personal timeline. And as Noneofyourbusiness said, the volcano eruption in Pompiie had existed the entire Who series, and it was later learnt that the Tenth Doctor was responsible for it.
