Whilst still using a dilapidated wheelchair, Technician Davros constructed a prototype machine for his project to create intelligent warrior robots with the mutated brains from badly wounded Kaled soldiers. (PROSE: Davros Genesis) By another account, his own hi-tech chair was the Mark I Travel Machine followed by multiple prototype Dalek casings, the Mark II Travel Machines which would come to be used by the Skaro City Daleks. (PROSE: The History of the Daleks) Some accounts also stated the Dalek casing design followed that of Davros's chair, with the chair serving as an inspiration for it. (PROSE: The Whoniverse, AUDIO: Guilt) By yet another account, Davros was not injured at all by the time the Dalek casing was finalised as the Mark III Travel Machine.
