It was the duty of the Lord Burner to "burn" people from history at the President's command. The ability to issue a burn edict was an ancient right of the presidency. However, over time, the practice became so secretive that the Lord Burner was thought to be a myth even among those who were well-informed. President Romana herself was unaware of her ability to issue a burn edict during her time in office, as the Lord Burner neglected to tell her their identity. |
