As a result, the city would have been at the heart of a new empire which would reach out to topple Rome and encompass the entire Earth. When the Tenth Doctor caused the eruption of the volcano, a rift in time was briefly opened over Pompeii. Echoing back through the previous 17 years, this time rift caused the gift of accurate prophecy that all the soothsayers and fortune-tellers in Pompeii had enjoyed.
