The Doctor's friends connect via webcam

A webcam was a device linked to and/or part of a computer which allowed people to communicate face-to-face, as well as with audio.

The Doctor's allies communicated via webcam in his absence, with the exception of Wilfred Mott and Rose Tyler, as Sylvia would not allow him one (believing them to be "naughty"). (DW: The Stolen Earth)

Sarah Jane Smith also used a webcam to keep in touch with Luke while he was at university. (SJA: Death of the Doctor)
