I'm trying to find if there is at least one reference in any of the Doctor Who novels or audio adventures. So far all I have turned up is a thread on Outpost Gallifrey's discussion forum. [http://doctorwhoforum.com/showthread.php?t=199160 ] Any pointers?--DrWho42 14:32, 9 September 2008 (UTC) | I'm trying to find if there is at least one reference in any of the Doctor Who novels or audio adventures. ::The timing is doubtful on this one. After all, the only plausible references in most of the novel range is to the original BSG, given that the novel ranges kind of rebooted at about the same time as BSG itself did. Put another way, the vast majority of DW novels, prior to the New Series Adventures, were published before the RDM version of BSG. And who in their right minds would be referencing the GAL version of BSG? It's just one li'l sliver of a season. And, it was (sort of) competition for DW when it came out in the UK. Not saying it never, ever happened, but I would be shocked, to put it mildly.
::So you're basically stuck looking for references to BSG in the New Series Adventures novels and sort of latter-day Big Finish Audios. I've never heard an overt reference to BSG in a BFA. I wouldn't claim to have scoured the BFAs for such a reference, but none jump out. I'm not at all versed in New Series novels, so I dunno if references exist. Again, I kinda doubt it, but ya never know. The only thing I can recommend is that you might go to the Discontinuity Guide, look up each New Series book page, and then search it individually for the word "Galactica' or possibly "Cylon". Paul Clarke, who seems to run the place, does a pretty good job of ferreting out the references that are made in each novel. I would tend to think that an overt reference to BSG would be unusual enough to trip his alarms over there.
::Now, there are a TON of references to BSG in behind-the-scenes stuff on televised DW. RTD cites it all the time in DVD commentaries, and on Confidential, as being precisely the sort of show he doesn't want DW to be, whereas you will occasionally hear voices from the production side who have great respect for what BSG has been able to achieve technically. On the DVD commentary to The Sound of Drums, Phil Collinson says that a particular CGI sequence involving the Toclafane was done as "our homage to Battlestar Galactica".
::Of course, none of these things are fictional references to BSG. But they're really the only ones I can think of. ::Spoke too soon. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to check out Izzy's dialogue. There's a positive reference to BSG in DWM: "Ophidius". The Doc is showing off the Andrallis Nebula to Izzy and she says: "Lovely! It's kind of like the opening credits to Battlestar Galactica." To which he responds, "This isn't a movie, Izzy. That's the real deal out there . . . I was hoping your frames of reference bight have expanded a little during your time in the TARDIS . . . but you're still comparing everything to simplistic fantasies!"
