So Christopher Eccleston recently revealed why he really left Doctor Who after one series; the reason being working conditions. Does anyone know any more info about this? And what's your opinion? I'm sort of glad they included the full "culture" remark, it does shed a little more light on exactly what he had meant by that. The BBC website included a carefully edited version of it, almost as if they wanted the fan base to jump to the wrong conclusion. No disrespect to Christopher Ecclestone, but he does seem to take his craft a little more seriously than the average actor. As far as we know it could eventually turn out to be something trivial, like John Barrowman continually singing show tunes. The most interesting thing I took from this article with regards to Eccleston is "But the most important thing is that I did it, not that I left.".

This statement though "I was open-minded but I decided after my experience on the first series that I didn't want to do any more. I didn't enjoy the environment and the culture that we, the cast and crew, had to work in. I wasn't comfortable. I thought, 'If I stay in this job, I'm going to have to blind myself to certain things that I thought were wrong.'" Is interesting, but I think it requires further research to be usable in an article and to give it some context. It's certainly something that's made me curious about the 'environment and culture' of the first BBC Wales series. --Tangerineduel 13:09, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Does he mean that working conditions in the BBC were bad or that he didn't like being in the type of programme doctor who is. I didn't think he would have disliked the conditions as him and RTD were friends, he was also friendly with Billie Piper too, though there could have been some prick like Michael Grade there, in fact Michael grade was actually there the stupid arsehole. Still I thought that by culture and environment he more meant being in a sort of silly Sci Fi series not something a bit more serious, I thought the open minded statement sort of supported that as he means he had an open mind to begin with about being in a Sci Fi series like doctor who then he decided it wasn't his thing, because as you said he does take his craft seriously and probably thought esspecially when you consider some of the riduclous ideas in series one like Cassandra soft cell being played in the year five billion he might of thought he was never gonna get serious roles or just didn't like it .
