The Academia was an institute of high learning on ancient Gallifrey. It was controlled by the Court of Principals. It taught philosophy, strategy sports, swordplay and military manoeuvres.
During the reign of the last Pythia, Vael was expelled from the Academia. The hero Prydonius donated the head of the Sphinx of Thule to the Academia Library. (NA: Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible)
