Ellie Higson was a barmaid at the Red Tavern in London during the 1890s who became a good friend and ally of two of its regulars, Henry Gordon Jago and Professor George Litefoot. (CC: The Mahogany Murderers, JAL: Jago and Litefoot)
She was deeply affected by the death of her younger brother, Private Jim Higson. (JAL: The Bloodless Soldier) This led her to seek the services of the spiritualist Mrs Vanguard. who claimed to be able to communicate with the dead. (JAL: The Spirit Trap)
