Lt. Commander Data was an android who served aboard the USS Enterprise. He was created by Dr. Soong more than thirty years earlier. Data constantly seeks to attain humanity, learning as best as he can abotu human emotions and hobbies.
Data was present on the ship's Holodeck with William Riker and Beverly Crusher when the Doctor's TARDIS landed in its "Dixon Hill" holonovel. The Doctor noted that the sight of an android wearing a pinstripe suit in 1941 San Francisco was unusual. (IDW: Assimilation²)
