The Sphinx was a foreseer which reigned over Thule until it was overthrown and killed by the Gallifreyan Hero Prydonius, who took its head back to Gallifrey. A few years later, the 508th Pythia had its eye stolen so she could use it to locate Vael. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible)
