Revision as of 20:09, 28 October 2012

Welcome to the Tardis:About Thisismyrofl

Thanks for your edits at Doctor Who Wiki! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask on my talk page. -- Doug86 (Talk) 03:03, October 23, 2012

Links

Not sure what you're talking about with respect to our inter-language linking being in "disarray". We have all the combinations you speak of. I've been very careful to request every possible linkage. None of the things you suggest in your post are true. We do have formal inter-language linkage in all the combinations you suggest, which can be verified by looking through the archives at community:Community Central:Interwiki requests.

You may be suggesting, though, that there are no formal inter-language links for it, ko, pl, and tr. That's true enough. We don't put in a request until a wiki hits 30 articles, as is stated at Forum:Interwiki Requests.

We won't be linking to he.doctorpedia.wikia because it doesn't follow the url naming convention that we've established as the main Doctor Who Wikia wiki. Your url must be in the form he.doctorwho.wikia for us to adopt you as the "official" Hebrew Wikia. That URL is available, so it would be a simple matter of transferring over. This transfer would allow you to keep he.doctorpedia.wikia as an alternate link, but at the same time standardise your url. For instance, the current German wiki started as w:c:de.doctorwhotorchwood but is now w:c:de.doctorwho. Both things still link to the same place, but the use of languagecode.doctorwho makes it much easier for everyone to find your wiki. Even this wiki is actually w:c:doctorwho.

I hope you will change your URL, as we absolutely do want easy links to your wiki.

Finally, just to answer your request, thanks for the offer, but you do not have permission from the admin staff of this wiki to request interlanguage linkages on our behalf.

I do thank you for your enthusiasm on this front. However, what you may be unaware of are the numbers of different Doctor Who wikis in other languages, and how we, as the main wiki, have to act responsibly towards each of them. At various points, there have been multiple German, multiple Hebrew and multiple Russian Doctor Who communities. Since interlanguage links can only work with one complementary wiki, we have to establish criteria by which we will decide which of competing wikis will become the "main" one for that language.
Please do not interfere with these processes by appearing to represent this wiki with other wikis. To cut down on confusion and mislinking, any offers to link with another wiki must be made by either myself or Tangerineduel, exclusively.
It's fine for you to bring to our attention any wikis we may have missed, but I'd ask you to consider the fact that because you've made no substantive contributions to this wiki, you may not actually understand the rhythms of our community. Please trust that we are absolutely committed to the goal of expanding linkages to the international community — but we must proceed in an orderly fashion.
If you find any other Doctor Who wikis to which we've not linked, please do let me or Tangerineduel know about them, so that we can approach the staff of that wiki and see what can be done. It is simply easier to build a bridge between two wikis if there is one person from this wiki interacting with one person from the complementary wiki.
Finally, I feel compelled to say that it is really not for someone who doesn't even watch Doctor Who to represent the main Doctor Who wiki in any way, shape or form. Your representation of yourself as being "from the English website" at w:c:he.doctorpedia:user talk:Puchplimmirdeyslithin is a flat-out lie. Please do not ever post anything like this on any Wikia wiki, because you're not a part of our local community in any substantive way.
Worse, you're inciting this user to adopt the wiki, when he wouldn't even be eligible, because a bureaucrat logged in today. The wiki is therefore not adoptable, under Wikia's rules.

I think Wikia has an odd thing with how it measures the most recent log in for a user. On my Wolfenstein Wiki, I've had it report that all seven administrators logged in on the same day, when some hadn't edited in 3 years, so I take that "Most recent log in" with a grain of salt. In any case, neither of the active administrators have edited since June (or the other, May) so one could argue that "Admins have been inactive for 60 days or more", which is the requirement quoted from the forum page. Still, I will revise my message asking for them to ask an administrator for admin rights.
As for representing the wiki, I apologize. I was trying to compose a message in simple English so it would be easier for him to read it, if he can read at all. Still I will revise that as well. Elecbullet 19:42, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

Evidently this isn't working and I feel terrible. Never mind. I tried to help and I didn't do much of anything right. Elecbullet 20:09, October 28, 2012 (UTC)
