When the Doctor opened the air vents, he opened the lower escape hatch on his car; as they looked beneath the fast lane, instead of seeing an empty lane they saw hordes of Macra, ready to snap at the annoying cars above them. The escape hatch above them then opened and the Doctor was reunited with Catkind Novice Hame, who immediately teleported away with him.
