The Wizard of Oz was a film adapted from the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum.
Ace was named after the main character because her mother Audrey was a fan of The Wizard of Oz, as is the Doctor. (AUDIO: The Settling) Audrey's mother Kathleen loved that movie, as it took her away from all her miseries. (PROSE: Love and War)
Fitz Kreiner had seen The Wizard of Oz when he was a kid and it had terrified him, especially the scene in which the flying monkeys attacked the Scarecrow. (PROSE: Grimm Reality)
When the Doctor's TARDIS appeared to kill Alid Jag by materialising on top of him and crushing him, the Eighth Doctor compared it to Dorothy's house killing the witch in The Wizard of Oz, except that no one seemed pleased at all by the occurrence. (PROSE: Mad Dogs and Englishmen)
