One more lost soul dreaming of Utopia.Yana

Professor Yana appeared to be a Human scientist, who was in reality an incarnation of the renegade Time Lord known as the Master. The Master had transformed himself into Yana through the Chameleon Arch.

Profile

Details concerning Yana's early life are possibly false.

Yana was an orphan found on the coast of the Silver Devastation with only a fob watch, which in reality held the Time Lord self of the Master. He could never keep time and was always late for things. He spent his life moving from one refugee ship to another and all his life he heard the sound of drums every waking hour as if they were getting closer.

He eventually became friends with the scientist Chantho, a Malmooth who was thought to be the last of her kind. Together, they worked on the Utopia Project to get the humans on Malcassairo to the planet Utopia.

Eventually, when he met the Doctor and Martha Jones, he thought more about the watch because of their talk, saying things like "Time Vortex", "Time War", and "regeneration", which clicked in his mind and he heard the voice of the Master within. He finally opened the watch and became his true form - the Master - once again, destroying Professor Yana.

As the Master, he let down the defences allowing the Futurekind in and began disabling the components, which allowed the system for the rocket to start up in the first place. When Chantho held him at gunpoint claiming he was destroying all of their work. In response, he grabbed the loose end of the live electric cable and threatened her with it. Chantho begged him for forgiveness but he claimed that she had driven him insane with her "Chan" and "Tho" before attacking her with the high-voltage cable. The Master removed the navigational computer chip that was giving the rocket the co-ordinates to Utopia and gave the impression that he knew Utopia didn't exist before looking at the Doctor's severed hand and putting it in the TARDIS. He removed the power cables and threw them down onto the floor. Chantho shot him with her energy gun before dying herself. The Doctor, Martha and Jack burst in and while Martha checks on Chantho and realises that she's dead, the Doctor moves towards the Master and the TARDIS. The Master backs into the Doctor's TARDIS so the Doctor begins to unlock it but the Master flicked the lock. The Doctor tried to unlock it using his sonic screwdriver but the Master deadlocks the door. The Doctor helplessly pounds on the door while Martha and Captain Jack try to shut the door. The Master regenerates into the Sixth Master. The Doctor desperately shouts that everything's changed and there's only the two of them now. The Master demands that The Doctor uses his name, to which the Doctor says "Master...I'm sorry." The Master replies back "Tough" and begins to dematerialise. The Doctor tries to override his efforts but only manages to fuse the TARDIS co-ordinates so that the only place the Master can go is twenty first century Earth and the End of the Universe. The Futurekind appear at the door and the Master strands the Doctor, Jack and Martha at the End of the Universe.

Yana's name was an acronym for the Face of Boe's last words: You are not alone." How the connection was made is unknown. Possibly the doing of Jack Harkness/The Face of Boe after he encountered The Master and attempts to set up a clue for the Doctor.
