It is unclear if the name Berrus was applicable to the mutant-fruit creatures of the planet Velgris, or whether the voice proclaiming themselves to be the Berrus was from an unknown invading force that sought to mutate the fruit through the use of a device that distorted the chanting of the Velgors (via remote control). The creatures declared the planet selected for clearance and re-seeding and began to consume the Velgors “before their masters arrive.” Either way the invasion was a failure due in no small part to the Doctor being able to program the device to produce another mutant fruit that encapsulated the invading ones.
