Jessica Hynes appeared in the Doctor Who serials Human Nature and The Family of Blood as Joan Redfern and The End of Time as Verity Newman. Earlier, she had voiced Glory Bee in the Doctor Who audio drama Invaders from Mars.

As a teenager, Hynes was a member of the National Youth Theatre company. She made her screen début in 1993 playing the First Midwife in Peter Greenaway's The Baby of Mâcon. Her film credits include Shaun of the Dead and voiceover work for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Hynes co-created Spaced and appeared in it alongside Simon Pegg, who was also in Invaders from Mars. In 2011, she appeared in The Hour, with Burn Gorman playing her husband.
