If you insist on posting these half-formed articles, be sure not to leave them too long in that state. If you arehaving trouble editing online, one suggestion I'd give is that you use word processing software to write out the article in full before copying it over onto the wiki. You may have to make a few adjustments, but if your original draft includes wikifying and categories etc. it may prove useful.--{{User:Skittles the hog/sig}} 15:41, September 5, 2014 (UTC) | If you insist on posting these half-formed articles, be sure not to leave them too long in that state. :I've fixed the appearance issue. I'm not familiar with the source material, so I've temporarily put the article into the category "species". Actually, TheAnonJade, you'll be happy to know that the issue you had creating this page is relatively minor and definitely fixable. Some pages, like species pages, have hidden messages that tell users how to create the page. When you created the page, you left the coding for the hidden message intact, so your content was hidden as well. When you create a page in source mode, you can delete the hidden message, which always starts with '''<nowiki><!--</nowiki>''' and ends with '''<nowiki>--></nowiki>'''. Categorisation[[edit source]]
First off, welcome to the Tardis wiki! Thank you for your recent edits. Usually, a bot automatically creates this page but for some reason it hasn't this time.
When you're adding categories to a page, you should only use the most specific one and none of its parent categories. For example, Architectural reconfiguration system is in Category:TARDIS components, so it doesn't need to be in Category:Gallifreyan technology because TARDIS components is already a subcategory of Gallifreyan technology. Avoiding this helps bots run. If you have any questions, you can ask on my talk page. P&P talk contribs 21:10, September 1, 2014 (UTC)
Categorisation, again[[edit source]]
Can you please pay attention when categorising pages. I see from the message left before me on this page that this issue has already been pointed out to you. Perhaps it would help to delineate exactly what the gripe we both seem to have is:
For example, a page in the category Cities visited by the Fifth Doctor does not need to be in the category Cities as the first category is itself in the category Cities visited by the Doctor which is in turn in the category Cities. Otherwise you are putting the page into the category Cities twice.
Please address this issue as quickly as possible. If you don't understand, or even if you disagree with this, just message me back on my talk page. We're glad to have new editors, so I hope you won't be put off by this.--Skittles the hog - talk 00:15, September 2, 2014 (UTC)
Ban on categories[[edit source]]
Unfortunately, I have to tell you to stop adding categories to pages. You clearly do not yet understand our category system, which is pretty complex. For now, until you've edited here a while, please confine your work to non-category edits. Thanks. Shambala108 ☎ 01:38, September 2, 2014 (UTC)
- No need to apologize. I suggest you read through Tardis:Categorisation and all the links at the top of that page. When you have done so, let me know.
- As for the notification, it's easy to miss. It usually says "You have a hypercube" (like from The Doctor's Wife). It's usually located in the bottom right of your screen, which is unfortunately where wikia-wide announcements are also located and usually ignored by many users. - Okey dokey. In the future, if you have any questions, feel free to ask any active admins, though some are more active than others. Shambala108 ☎ 02:10, September 2, 2014 (UTC)
Glad to hear you're on the right track; it's a learning curve for everyone. I look forward to seeing your future contributions.--Skittles the hog - talk 02:24, September 2, 2014 (UTC)
New pages[[edit source]]
When you make a new page and its too short to have an infobox or you don't have all the information to fill it in, you can just get rid of it. Not every article needs one, and its better to not have one than have a big blue rectangle on the side of the page. P&P talk contribs 17:31, September 3, 2014 (UTC)
- To clarify, I meant if you can't fill in the infobox, you can get rid of it, not the whole page. Also, when you're leaving a message on a talk page, be sure to add a heading and sign your post with four tildes so it leaves a link back to your talk page and a timestamp. Page deletion[[edit source]]
Alright, I'm willing to provide a little leeway before deleting articles if I see your username. If possible, it would be better if you do not publish the article until it at least has some content, a source and is categorised. It was unfamiliarity with this method of editing (and having seen so many pages like that created in the past without good reason) that prompted me to delete it so speedily.
If you insist on posting these half-formed articles, be sure not to leave them too long in that state. If you arehaving trouble editing online, one suggestion I'd give is that you use word processing software to write out the article in full before copying it over onto the wiki. You may have to make a few adjustments, but if your original draft includes wikifying and categories etc. it may prove useful.--Skittles the hog - talk 15:41, September 5, 2014 (UTC)
