Thane was the High Priest of Florana in its early history. He was loyal to a Dalek who claimed to be one of its gods. He heard the Dalek talking to the Fifth Doctor, and admitting that it was not a true god. Realising that he had been used all this time, he killed the Dalek, and tried to use a weapon known as the Cleansing Fire to wipe all non-believers from the face of the planet. He died in the process. (AUDIO: The Elite)
