Ants were a family of insect native to Earth.
Ants were used as food in the Roman Empire. While in Rome in 64, the First Doctor and his companions enjoyed a meal which included ants' eggs in honey prepared by Barbara Wright. (TV: The Romans) In Pompeii in 79, Lobus Caecilius ordered some ants in honey with a dormouse. (TV: The Fires of Pompeii)
