Lisa Hallett worked at Torchwood Tower in London during the time of the Battle of Canary Wharf. Along with many others of the Torchwood personnel she was partially upgraded into a Cyberman. Not a victim of the full cyber-conversion process, she had Cyber-technology added on to her Human body. After the battle, her boyfriend, Ianto Jones, also in the employ of the Torchwood Institute, transported her to Torchwood 3 in Cardiff.

Humanity

Dr. Tanizaki was brought in by Ianto to attempt to help remove the Cyber-implantsilled by Hallett. She exlained that he had done so much much for her an she wanted to thank him by trying to upgrade him and therefore make him superior. Whilst this may seem twisted to may, for Lisa she was repaying him the only way she thought she could; by making him what she thought as being superior, like her. This demonstartes that whilst her mind has been damaged by the partial conversion and her ideas and beliefs altered she still retained a large part of her humanity. This was shown later again whenInto said that if she cooperated they could be together she said "Yes! Transplant you brain into my body, we will be one person, is that not what love is?" Showing she stil felt love for Ianto and in a sense wanted to be together with him. The last time she showcad her humanity was in the last ten minutes of the episode. She had transplanted her brain into a Jubilee Pizza delivery girl in an attempt to return to being human, trying to understand the concept of love. Unfortunately, she was killed by the Torchwood 3 personnel whilst still talking to Ianto in her new body. (TW: Cyberwoman)

Other appearances

Lisa reappeared as a 'spirit' which urged Ianto to open the Cardiff Rift. Though, in truth this was merely an illusion projected to Ianto by Bilis Manger(TW: End of Days)

Lisa is also mentioned in a flashback to the past in a different episode from Series Two. Here, Jack Harkness mentions that Lisa is Ianto's girlfriend, which he found out after doing a data check on him. (TW: Fragments)

Behind the Scenes

In Torchwood Magazine, it is suggested in an interview with Gareth David-Lloyd that Lisa is the reason why Ianto Jones wears suits rather than casual clothes as he once did the first time he met Jack. David-Lloyd states that Ianto wears his suits as a way of masking his true personalities, and his intentions to find a cure for Lisa. However, once the death of Lisa comes about, David-Lloyd explains that Ianto becomes much more comfortable in both his suits, and in his team.
