The Reverend Ernest Matthews traveled from Oxford to Gabriel Chase in Perivale to speak with Josiah Samuel Smith about the latter's "theories" concerning evolution, in which Matthews disbelieved. He had a fondness for bananas.
He quarreled with the Doctor (who he mistook for Smith). As a humorously ironic revenge changed him into an ape-like creature and put him on display. (DW: Ghost Light)
