Rossini was the captain of the guard of San Martino. In the struggle for power between Count Federico and Duke Giuliano, he was loyal to the Count. He often took care of the Count's more "unpleasant" business, and was fully complicit in the efforts to kill the young Duke in order to clear the way for the Count to assume power over the duchy.
