::Hi! I'm the staff member who's working on the welcome feature, so I'm going around to my favorite wikis to make sure you know how to make it work the way you want. We just added a few more ways to customize it, so I can help you with whatever you need.
::Since the new tool has been running, I've seen really amazing results -- it's awesome that you guys have been doing the welcomes manually, but that means that the welcome can be left a couple hours after the new contributor's edit. The new tool leaves the message after a minute, while the contributor is still on the wiki -- and that turns out to be a really powerful advantage. I've seen a lot more people responding positively to getting the messages, reaching out to admins with questions, because they get the welcome while they're still around to read it.
::Anyway -- let me know how you'd like the welcome to work, and I can help you get it set up. What were the concerns that you had about it? -- [[User:Toughpigs|Danny]]<staff /> ([[User talk:Toughpigs|talk]]) 00:39, 21 March 2009 (UTC) |

If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.
This is mostly to people who add the Welcome templates to both new users and IP editors. The mediawiki was recently updated to allow for automatic adding of these templates new users / IP editors.
What does everyone think, I (think) I've fixed the implementation process, but it can all be disabled and we go back to adding it manually. (If you want to check out how it all works and what updates have been made Wikia - New features, there's also info on the category select system an other minor things.
With wikia's new system it takes the admin that has been editing most and adds it to the template.
I don't mind the automation, through I know of several users who also add Welcome templates, and I think it's not just admins that can assist new users. Thoughts? --Tangerineduel 14:20, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
