Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, born Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, also called Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus, was the fifth Emperor of the Roman Empire during the 1st century.
Biography
Following the conquest of Britain by the Roman Empire in 43, Prasutagus, the king of the Iceni, was one of several tribal rulers in Britain who were bought off by the Romans. After Prasutagus' death, he left half of his kingdom to Nero and the other half to his daughters. His widow Boudica became the Queen of the Iceni. However, the Emperor annexed the entire kingdom. When Boudicca objected, she was flogged and her daughters were raped in public. This resulted in Boudicca leading a failed revolt against the occupying Roman forces in 60. (AUDIO: The Wrath of the Iceni)
In July 64, Nero's slave buyer Tavius bought Barbara Wright and brought her to the palace. Nero immediately took to her and gleefully chased her around the palace until they were caught by his wife.
When the First Doctor came to stay, pretending to be the famous lyre player Maximus Pettulian, Nero grew jealous of his popularity. Nero was about to kill him when the Doctor set fire to the Emperor's plans for a new Rome, which had previously been rejected by the Senate. From this, Nero was inspired to burn the old capital, so his new city could be built. (TV: The Romans)
By the time that humans left Earth on the Ark, Nero's reign was said to take place in the First Segment of Time. (TV: The Ark)
While in a bubble prison, Iris Wildthyme imagined attending a Roman orgy hosted by Nero. She described him as a "spotty little twerp." (AUDIO: Whatever Happened to Iris Wildthyme?)
