Butler and his partner Swarf were shapechanger criminals.
They were hired by the Fellowship to steal a powerful nuclear weapon, Pandora's Box, and deliver it to a planet in the Althosian system. He died there when the android Thomas knocked him into a patch of red weed that paralysed him, then turned him into stone. (PROSE: The Pit)
