Akido is not karate[[edit source]]

Akido and karate are fundamentally different. It's perfectly possible to learn both. Why should we assume that one is simply the secondary name of the other? In The Mind of Evil part two, the Doctor puts an obviously aggressive move on Mike Yates, then calls it "Venusian karate". Anyone got a problem with splitting the article?

In the real world, karate and aikido are both Japanese. So I see no problem with saying that the Venusians have the two separate arts of aikido and karate. Shambala108 16:13, June 2, 2013 (UTC)
While the above arguments are true in that aikido and karate are separate schools of Martial Arts, unless we can make note of significantly more occurrences of Venusian Karate, and be able to describe without referencing it back to Venusian Aikido, then this 1 incident of the different styles and names is possibly just a misspeak that made it into the final product. Also, to someone who doesn't know either of the styles, all the martial arts look like they're the same. I would argue against splitting. DWolf2k2 02:45, January 28, 2014 (UTC)
Now that is has been over a year since this was first discussed with no progress in showing why there needs to be a split, I'm going to take down the notification of the need for an update. If something new churns up then we can resume talking about it, but right now, it's just an unnecessary blip on the page. DWolf2k2 07:12, September 29, 2014 (UTC)
The Fifth Doctor uses Venusian Karate on Adric in First Born. Shambala108 04:45, November 18, 2015 (UTC)
Well, that certainly seems to be enough to establish content for separate articles. Or, and this complicates matters to even bring it up, we could move this article to Venusian martial arts and then have two sections for Karate and Aikido, and then have a BTS section where we explained what Letts and Dicks have said about it on various DVD commentaries, and where we explain that we don't know of any prose material that explains the difference in great detail. Then we'd redirect Venusian aikido and Venusian karate to this unitary article. There are times when combining articles about similar articles allows you to better explain the differences to the average reader, as we've done with the Master.
