Umbaste was the Lord President of the Homeworld immediately before War King. He was nominated as part of the Faraway Declaration by his predecessor, whose untimely death left him very shaken. Upon his election, the other Great Houses hastily nominated the soon-to-be War King to the High Council, since Umbaste had little-to-know will of his own and would just approve the War King's forty years of plans and preparations for the War.
