Shanks was a worker at Workhouse where Thomas Brewster was sent to live after his mother's death. The Fifth Doctor and Nyssa once came to talk to Brewster about his dreams. He later gave him into an apprenticeship of Mr Creek. (AUDIO: The Haunting of Thomas Brewster)
