Conjecture or not, wouldn't he still be a Lethbridge-Stewart? Why is that not in the title?
Talk about it here.

Mariama was the son of Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart and Mariatu. He was born in Sierra Leone, and as a boy returned to his mother's village with her a year after the country gained independence. The fair-skinned, green-eyed boy grew up and became a soldier. He had a son, who also became a soldier, and a daughter, Kadiatu Lethbridge-Stewart, who became a historian. (PROSE: Transit)
Behind the scenes
The son of the Brigadier and Mariatu was not named in the novel, but the name appears in the early draft of The Also People. (REF: A History of the Universe, AHistory)
