Harold Wilson was a Labour Party politician, and later Prime Minister, very much in favour of science and technology.

Profile

In October 1963 he had made a speech to that effect at a Scarborough conference of his party. The well-publicized failure of Project Inferno and the Wenley Moor nuclear reactor, as publicized, by among news stories, the "Bad Science" series of articles by journalist James Stevens made Wilson's position seem untenable. (MA: Who Killed Kennedy, referencing DW: Inferno and Doctor Who and the Silurians) Wilson called an election for June 1970, which he lost. Some speculated that the publication of the book version of "Bad Science" had coincided not-so-incidentally with the election. (MA: Who Killed Kennedy)

Behind the Scenes
