Hik Wellar was, according to the Second Doctor, "the greatest game hunter known". The Doctor requested for him specifically to be part of a team to rescue Jason Wurlitzer from the dwarfs that had taken him captive. While hunting game on Hargo, he was informed that Kurt Wurlitzer has requested his services "for a fortune in gold".
Led by the Doctor, Wellar and the team flew to the planet of the dwarfs. On their two-day journey through a dense jungle, Hik Wellar took down a massive beast with his rifle. The Doctor thought to himself, "Wellar must have nerves of steel... If any man can get us through this jungle, he can!"
He later helped the Doctor take care of the guards above the underground base where Jason was being held. (COMIC: Operation Wurlitzer)
