VE Day — which stood for Victory In Europe — marked the Allies' victory over Nazi Germany in World War II and took place on 8 May 1945. Thousands of people gathered in Trafalgar Square in London, where a major celebration was held. On the occasion, Winston Churchill made a speech that got played over loudspeakers.
