A student was an individual obtaining an education, usually at a school, college, university, or other academic institution.
School students
A school student, or pupil (TV: School Reunion) was an individual who studied at a school.
School students typically studied a range of subjects including English, mathematics, (TV: The Caretaker) science and history. (TV: An Unearthly Child)
In the United Kingdom, students often wore uniforms which bore the logo and colours of the schools they attended. (TV: School Reunion, The Caretaker) In the United States, school students tended to wear casual clothes rather than a uniform. (TV: The Return of Doctor Mysterio)
Sixth form students
A sixth form student was an individual who studied at a sixth form.
Although usually older than school students, sixth form students were similar in that they studied a variety of subjects. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)
College students
to be added
University students
A university student was an individual who studied at a university.
Unlike school and college students, university students usually studied just one subject. They were often referred as a student of their chosen subject, for example both Liz Shaw (TV: Spearhead from Space) and Martha Jones studied medicine and were therefore referred to as "medical students". (TV: Smith and Jones)
A student in their first year of university could be referred to as a fresher. (TV: Knock Knock) A student who completed university was known as graduate of that university. (AUDIO: Autumn, TV: Death in Heaven)
University students could be studying towards a degree (TV: Spearhead from Space) or a more advanced diploma, such as a Doctorate. (TV: The God Complex)
Subjects studied at university could be as diverse as cheesemaking. (TV: The God Complex)
Time Lord students
The Deca were a group of top-ranked students at the Time Lord Academy. (PROSE: Divided Loyalties) The Doctor was one of them, even though he did not excel academically, graduating only with a 51% pass rate on the second attempt . (TV: The Ribos Operation) Romana, however, achieved a "Triple First" when she was at the Academy centuries later. (TV: The Ribos Operation)
