A planet was the location in which a scientist created the Umbra. When the Umbra gained intelligence, they spread across the entire planet, killing the natives and absorbing their minds and souls. The scientist lured them into the Sun using what the Twelfth Doctor guessed was "[m]ost likely a trans-warp tunnel, using the Sun as a power source." (COMIC: The Eye of Torment)
