Charles Fairfax was a human living in London in 1851.
His wife Emily received visions from what she thought was an "angel". The visions were plans for a quantum resonator, which her husband built. This allowed the "angel", in actuality the Hypothetical Gentleman, to enter our reality. It stole time from various people, including Charles, causing them to be frozen in place. This was so it could fully manifest. When Amy Pond destroyed the quantum resonator, the Gentleman was banished and all its victims were freed. (COMIC: Hypothetical Gentleman)
