In Greek mythology, Polydectes was a king. He was forcing Perseus' mother to marry him. Perseus wanted to kill Medusa and give her head as a wedding gift to Polydectes. Perseus later showed the head to Polydectes, who was turned into stone as soon as he set eyes on Medusa's head. (PROSE: Eye of the Gorgon)
