The Child was a human baby that had been turned into a vampire. While the Fifth Doctor was in Tasmania, Ruath sent the Child to leech out the Doctor's blood, as a Time Lord's blood was needed to completely rejuvenate Yarven. It attacked Nyssa by mistake, and turned her into a vampire. Later, after the Time Freeze that Ruath created was broken, the Child was destroyed by the reappearance of the sun. Since Nyssa had not fed directly on human blood yet, her vampirism was undone. (PROSE: Goth Opera)
