Goodthing's mother was among the colonists awoken from stasis early to ensure the Vardies were working properly.
However, at some point the Vardies killed her when she displayed grief. Goodthing discovered this and forced herself to smile to avoid the same fate. When she tried to warn Kezzia that her mother was dead, Kezzia was killed and then Goodthing herself. (TV: Smile)
