Gathering Coils were a semi-species of tentacles which could gather data. They also had the ability to plant DNA bombs using their tentacles. They were able to gather to create one large creature and could be de-activated with a large electric shock.
Tzim-Sha used one in order to locate a trophy to take back to his planet, despite this being against his rules. This was later de-activated by Grace O'Brien. (TV: The Woman Who Fell to Earth)
