The Salzburg fortress was situated atop the city of Salzburg.
It never fell to the enemy. Only one road led to it from the city. The Salzburg fortress cable railway was situated on the other side of the fortress.
During their visit to Salzburg, the Eighth Doctor, Liv Chenka and Helen Sinclair parked the Doctor's TARDIS in the fortress grounds. (AUDIO: Fairytale of Salzburg)
