Three was one of Marianna's creations. He taunted Leela in the TARDIS library after the cockroaches all died and the children in her painting started laughing. Leela was the only one who could hear him. He got Leela to press the button to release him. He taunted Leela with the Horda. (AUDIO: The Abandoned)
