Leitmotifs are those bits of recurring incidental music which are particularly associated with a character, narrative theme, or species. Though not entirely absent from the 1963 version of Doctor Who, they have been employed more consistently in the work of Murray Gold, Segun Akinola and Ben Foster for the shows of the BBC Wales DWU.
