Bhakti was a sadhu, a wandering Hindu holy man who lived in the Punjab during the Partition of India. He felt that young people in the 1940s were always in a rush, and saw no need for transport when his feet had served him well all his life.

In August 1947 he was to officiate the marriage of Umbreen and Prem, but was murdered by Prem's brother Manish, who did not approve of his Hindu brother marrying a Muslim woman.

Two Thijarians, Almak and Kisar, watched over Bhakti as he died. (TV: Demons of the Punjab)
