Bartholomew Kitchen was a Brigadier-General in the British Army during the Crimean War (1853-1856). He was mentally unstable as he had betrayed the United Kingdom in an attempt to finish the war. In October 1854, he blamed the Seventh Doctor for doing so and had him arrested and imprisoned. He believed that he had killed the Doctor, but he had actually disappeared in a white box.
