Bill was a television writer. His wife was Cindy and his mistress was Susie.
At one point, the Eighth Doctor worked with Bill. Their split was fifty-fifty. During this time, Bill was drinking heavily and having trouble coming up with new ideas.
When a group of people, including Susie, starting to experience stigmata (bleeding on their palms), Bill experienced severe chest pains. The Doctor diagnosed that it wasn't a heart attack. Instead, Bill was suffering the symptoms of suffocation, which was how those who were crucified died. The Doctor told Susie that Bill was suffering this way because he had Alzheimer's disease or something similar. He told Susie that Bill only had about three years to live.
Bill overheard this conversation, and he also heard Susie say that she should stop seeing him. (PROSE: Mordieu)
