In an alternate timeline, a death ray was a fictional weapon which Queen Victoria, at the urging of her prince consort John Hart, used to coerce the President of the United States into surrendering his nation to British Empire by threatening to obliterate New York City. When the Queen pointed out to her husband that they did not infact have a death ray, he countered that the Americans did not know that and suggested that they get a real death ray.
