Jeff Smith was an orphan who was possessed by a billionaire. At the age of six, he was taken to see an alien witch Isobella Havelstack. On this visit, the mind of billionaire Terrence Malson was transferred into Jeff. At the age of sixteen Malson would be able to take over Jeff's body. Meanwhile, Jeff was left in Isobella's care and had a happy childhood. Shortly before turning sixteen, he learned the truth from Isobella and used one of her spells to erase her memory to prevent her from renegging on her promise to Malson and thus endangering herself and her family. The Eighth Doctor suggested that Jeff should erase his mind every time Malson would be ready to take over using the same spell. This would prolong Jeff's time in control of his body. Jeff eventually had enough of running from Malson's henchmen and shot himself in the head, seemingly killing Malson. (AUDIO: Running Out of Time)
