The consultation was a mandatory process in the Church of the Outsiders, devised by Steve Ross. It was done by a member and their co-pilot.

Ross described consultation as being a valuable process in clarifying and expressing one's thoughts, releasing and solidifying them. The thoughts were to be shared with the co-pilot but also with aliens.

Ianto Jones had his consultations with co-pilot Erin Lewis, where he was asked why he felt he did not belong and what he disliked most about himself. (AUDIO: Believe)
